Breeding in the treeless landscape of the Arctic Tundra and in the Scandinavian mountains over the treeline, this bird also prefers treeless hilly landscapes to rest on its migration. Therefore it can be found in small flocks on huge agricultural harvested fields in middle Europe.

It is known not to be shy - maybe due to the fact, that this bird barely meets humans in its breeding areas.

Diese Vogelart brütet über der Baumgrenze in den skandinavischen Bergen, sowie in der arktischen Tundra. Auch auf dem Zug bevorzugt er baumlose Landschaften, sodass man Gruppen in Mitteleuropa meist auf abgeernteten riesigen Feldern, gerne auf einer kleinen Hügelkuppe, findet. diese Vogelart ist bekannt dafür, dass sie nicht scheu ist - vielleicht weil sie in ihrem Brutgebiet nur selten auf Menschen trifft.
