Bluethroat | Blaukehlchen | Luscinia svecica - Germany, May 2017

There are different subspecies of the bluethroat in Europe. They can be distinguished by the color of the spot in the blue area of the throat. This bird belongs to the svecica subspecies, because it has a red spot in the centre of the blue bib. The red-spotted bluethroat breeds in northern Europe and in the Alps. Another bluetroat-subspecies is called white-spotted bluethroat, breeds in the rest of europe and has surprisingly a white spot, but can also occur without this mark and a complete blue throat.

Es gibt verschiedene Unterarten des Blaukehlchens in Europa. Sie werden an der Farbe des roten Sterns auf der blauen Kehle unterschieden. Dieses Exemplar gehört zur svecica Unterart, da es einen roten Stern besitzt. Das rotsternige Blaukehlchen brütet in Nordeuropa und in den Alpen. Eine andere Unterart wird Weißsterniges Blaukehlcen gennant, brütet im restlichen Europa und hat überraschnderweise einen weißen Stern, kann aber auch völlig ohne dieses Merkmal mit komplett blauer Kehle auftreten.
